Arthritis
Arthritis by definition is the inflammation or degeneration of a joint. Unfortunately however, that inflammation is typically accompanied by swelling and pain in and around that joint or joints.
The two leading types of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis:
Rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis refers to a chronic autoimmune disorder that occurs when your immune system attacks its own healthy tissue and the lining of your joints.
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is generally caused by the natural wear and tear of the cartilage at the end of your bones. When cartilage wears down over time and as you age, your bones begin to rub against each other, causing inflammation and pain. This type of arthritis is most common with individuals in older age, as the wear and tear of the body has been occurring much longer.
The team at Premier Foot and Ankle Care also specializes in treating GOUT, another type of arthritis that develops when too much uric acid crystallizes and inflames the joint.
The objectives in the treatment of arthritis are controlling inflammation, preserving joint function.
